This Long Weekend...

Hi 7B/7A,

For 7B, please make sure that you create an online profile on Voicethread like Mrs. Norris showed you. I will be checking to see that you've completed them over the weekend.

For both classes -- study hard over the weekend for your test on Tuesday! Here's some help...

What we need to know about New France

·        Filles du Roi
o       The King’s Daughters
o       They were poor French women sent to France to populate the colony. They married the men there.
o       The King of France paid their “tickets” and also paid their dowry so it was a good option for them.

·        The Battle of Louisbourg
o       It was a French fort on the coast of Nova Scotia
o       It protected the St. Lawrence River from the English
o       It went right into the heart of New France – Quebec and Montreal
o       So when Louisbourg was captured – the war turned against them.

·        The Battle of the Plains of Abraham
o       Fought in 1763
o       It was fought just outside of Quebec
o       General Wolfe led the British and General Montcalm led the French
o       It was the battle that ended the 7 Year War and it finally decided who took over North America

·        Treaty of Paris
o       It was the Treaty that was signed at the end of the war between the French and the English
o       It made certain agreements: 1. That French could still be spoken, the French Canadians can still keep their religion and that the custom and culture would be kept

·        Fur Trade
o       New France became rich because of the fur trade
o       Was dependent on the Fur Trade
o       The French made alliances with the Huron for trading rights and the Iroquois did the same with the English
o       It’s what caused the war – control of wealth

What are some reasons that the English won the war:

What did the British want from the Acadians?

Why is Quebec French Today?

New France

Hey everyone,

Make sure that you put the final touches to your assignment over the weekend. If at all possible, try to bring in a plastic case so that we can display our games in the display case upstairs. Remember to include some historical facts underneath your pictures as well!

Have a great weekend!

Just a friendly reminder for homework this weekend:

1. Create a "blurb" for the game NHL 12. Just 4-5 sentences will do. Remember though: who is your audience? How do you make the game sound exciting?
2. Share those tessellations!

Have a good weekend!

Welcome to History!

As we start history this term, I want you to keep in mind that history is not simply the regurgitation of facts and dates -- it's about evaluating evidence, identifying bias, perspective and voice. It's about critical thinking!

Enjoy the weekend!

Welcome back!

Hi Grade 7s,

I'm updating the homework on our homepage (just for today). Remember to regularly check the math/geography/language tabs for homeworkupdates.

For math tonight, I want you to visually represent how you solve the question, "2/3 + 1/2" using pattern blocks that you can draw out to communicate to your peers.

For language I want you to finish up your draft for the news letter that will go home. Remember to include:

1. An introduction to LSG and what we did.
2. How did you enjoy the experiences? What did you learn and how do they tie in to the curriculum?
3. Reasons as to why next years grade 7s should go.

Thanks!

Lake St. George

Hi Grade 7s,

I've uploaded the a list of things you'll need for Lake St George on Monday. I'd also like to suggest that you bring either slippers of indoor running shoes for the cabins and don't forget to bring some quarters for the pay phone to call your parents!

See you Monday!
